Candy Kingdom Defense units explained: the hero roster from Finn to Marceline, the rarity tiers from Common to Prime, and which heroes to pull first.
Candy Kingdom Defense Units and Heroes
Candy Kingdom Defense is built on Adventure Time characters, and the game's own description names the ones that matter: you "Team up with Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline and the whole crew of Ooo". Add the characters the official art and the game's own panels show, and you have a roster of roughly a dozen heroes spread across a rarity ladder that runs from Common to Prime.

The Confirmed Roster
These are the heroes you can verify from first-party sources, either the developer's description, the official screenshots or the game's own panels.
| Hero | Where it is confirmed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Finn | Official description and the hero card grid | Offered on the starter screen. Also has a named evolution, Adult Finn. |
| Jake | Official description and the hero card grid | Offered on the starter screen. Also has a named evolution, Alien Jake. |
| Princess Bubblegum | Official description and the official cast artwork | Appears in the third official screenshot alongside the rest of the crew. |
| Marceline | Official description and the official cast artwork | Has a named evolution, Marceline Beast. |
| BMO | Official description and the official cast artwork | Has a named evolution, King BMO. |
| Lemongrab | Official description and the official cast artwork | Attacks with Lemongrab's sour army in the story. |
| Lich | The game's own hero card grid | Appears as a summonable unit. |
| Magic Man | The game's own hero card grid | Appears as a summonable unit. |
| Flame | The hero card grid | Multiple Flame cards appear alongside the base heroes. |
The developer's description lists the evolutions explicitly, and those names tell you which heroes have an upgrade path: Alien Jake, Adult Finn, King BMO and Marceline Beast, plus "and more". The evolution guide covers how that system works.
The Rarity Tiers
The game's own interfaces use a rarity ladder for units, and the labels appear across the summon screen, the unit list and the shop. The tiers you will see are:
Common, Rare, Epic, Mythic, Legendary, Prime.
Every hero in your inventory carries a star count that encodes its rarity. The clearest example in the game's own interface is the Castle Lemongrab panel, which shows FINN — RARE — LV.1 with a single star. The starter selection screen shows Jake on a five-star card, which puts him well up the ladder.
Two details from the interface are worth noting. First, evolution has its own separate stage list, which the Enchiridion panel spells out as Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic — that is the rarity ladder a hero climbs as you evolve it, not the rarity it was summoned at. Second, the premium reward at the top of the Season One battle pass is a "shiny Fire King", which implies the Fire King sits at the top of the collection.
No first-party source publishes exact percentages for unit rarity, and the summon screen does not display them. Any guide giving you a precise per-rarity pull rate is inventing it. What the game does show is the reward structure around the summons: a Treasure Hoard, the Lucky Summons pass that doubles Mythic odds and multiplies Legendary odds by 1.5, and the VIP pass that improves trait odds at Castle Lemongrab.
How to Pull
Heroes come from the Treasure Hoard, which is the summon screen. A pull reveals four hero cards at once, as shown in the game's own interface, and the gem price is displayed at the top of that panel.
The pulls that matter most:
- Jake, if you skipped him on the starter screen, because he is the strongest of the two starters.
- Finn, because he has a named evolution form and a clean upgrade path.
- BMO, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, because the developer built named evolutions around them, which is a strong signal they are the endgame heroes.
The tier list ranks them by practical value, and the traits guide explains why two heroes of the same rarity can play very differently.
Managing What You Own
Your roster is bigger than your squad. Six slots means six heroes in the fight, and the rest sit in your inventory waiting.
Three habits keep a growing roster useful:
- Level the six, not the ninety. XP Candies go to the heroes in your active squad. A level 60 hero in the bench is worth nothing in a stage.
- Reroll into the squad. A trait reroll on a hero you actually deploy is worth far more than the same reroll on a bench hero. The reroll guide covers the crystal economy.
- Feed duplicates. The quests list includes "Feed your heroes 3 times" as an early objective, which confirms feeding a hero with a duplicate is a normal, supported way to level up rather than a waste.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many units are in Candy Kingdom Defense? The game does not publish a total, but the confirmed roster includes Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, BMO, Lemongrab, Lich, Magic Man and Flame, with more arriving with the announced worlds.
What is the highest rarity unit? Prime is the top rarity label used in the game's interfaces, above Legendary and Mythic.
Which units can evolve? The official description names Alien Jake, Adult Finn, King BMO and Marceline Beast, so Jake, Finn, BMO and Marceline all have evolution paths.
Where do you summon units? The Treasure Hoard, which opens from the UNITS panel in the hub.
Is a five-star hero always better than a one-star hero? Not automatically. Rarity sets the ceiling, and the trait decides how the hero behaves in a wave. The tier list weighs both together.
